Powering The Full-Size Pickup Truck
The 2023 Ford F-150 performance features begin with a 3.3-liter V6 engine with 290 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. This engine is standard in the base XL and XLT. The popular Lariat trim comes standard with a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.
Full-size pickup truck drivers still appreciate having a robust V8 in their vehicles, so Ford continues to offer the 5.0-liter 400-horsepower V8 in the King Ranch, Platinum, and Tremor trims.
The automaker also offers a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with and without a mild-hybrid powertrain. Without the electric motor, the EcoBoost V6 delivers 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, while the mild-hybrid PowerBoost model has 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque.
Ford also engineers a high-output version of the EcoBoost engine with 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque for the 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor trim.
Finally, the automaker includes a supercharged 5.2-liter high-output V8 with 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque for the Raptor R trim. While this trim has the highest horsepower and torque, it’s designed for performance, not necessarily for towing.
All trims come with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and most engine options come with standard rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is available.
Maximum Towing Capacity Of 14,000 Pounds
The maximum towing capacity in the 2023 Ford F-150 is in the models configured with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 SuperCab with an 8-foot box and rear-wheel drive or the SuperCrew models with rear-wheel drive. These configurations have a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds when equipped with the Max Towing package.
The 5.0-liter V8 engine can tow up to 13,000 pounds, while the 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid powertrain can tow up to 12,700 pounds. The 2.7-liter V6 can tow up to 10,100 pounds, and the other models can tow between 8,200 and 8,700 pounds.
Payload capacities vary based on the trim, powertrain, cab, and bed combinations. The F-150 can carry between 3,315 and 1,400 pounds. The trucks with the 5.0-liter V8 can haul the most, while the Raptor R model can carry the least amount of payload.
